Four things that matter more than a CV
Curiosity about businesses
The best recruiters are interested in how companies actually work. If you find a conversation about a plant's throughput or a lending book's risk profile genuinely interesting, you will do well here.
Comfort with a difficult conversation
Telling a client their brief is unfillable, or a candidate they did not get the role and why, is most of the job. We would rather hire someone direct than someone smooth.
Ownership
Consultants here own mandates end to end. There is no delivery team behind you to pass the hard part to, which is also why the work is more interesting than it is at a large firm.
Written clarity
Shortlist assessments, market maps and client reports are all written. Being able to make a case in three paragraphs matters more here than presentation polish.
