Marketing Recruitment

Marketing is the hardest function to hire on paper, because everyone's CV sits next to a number they did not personally produce.

Overview

How we hire marketing

Marketing is one of the two largest things NM delivers. We hire across the whole function: brand and category management, performance and paid media, content and social, CRM and lifecycle, product marketing, and the growth leadership above all of it.

The reason marketing hiring goes wrong is almost never sourcing. Marketers are visible and easy to find. It is attribution: a candidate from a brand that tripled revenue may have driven that or merely been present for it, and a CV cannot tell you which. Our screening is built around separating the two, by asking what a candidate personally owned, decided and measured, and what they would do differently now.

We hire marketers into every sector we serve, which is the point of treating this as a specialism rather than folding it into one industry. The same performance marketer is wanted by a D2C brand, a lender and a SaaS business, and the assessment barely changes.

What goes wrong

Why marketing hiring fails

Attribution: did they do it, or were they there?

A brand that grew fast does not prove the candidate drove it. We probe spend personally managed, the decisions they made, and the metrics they owned rather than the ones their company reported.

Channel experience does not transfer

Paid social, marketplace, quick commerce, general trade and B2B demand generation are different jobs. We screen on the specific channel, not on the word 'marketing'.

Compensation has moved fast

Performance and growth pay has risen sharply in specific pockets. We benchmark at kick-off so the brief and the budget are compatible before we start.

Portfolio inflation

Creative and content portfolios frequently include team work presented as individual work. We ask what the candidate personally made, and it is usually a short conversation.

Market notes

What we are seeing in marketing

  • 01

Bengaluru, Mumbai and Gurgaon hold the deepest performance and growth marketing pools.

  • 02

Quick commerce has pulled experienced marketplace and retention marketers into short supply.

  • 03

D2C and SaaS candidates evaluate runway and unit economics before accepting, and will ask.

  • 04

Full-stack marketers who can run both brand and performance are rare and priced accordingly.

Marketing teams built in India for overseas brands

Performance marketing, content, SEO, design and marketing operations are among the most commonly built India based functions for US, Australian and Gulf businesses. The work is measurable, the tooling is identical worldwide, and the timezone matters less for execution roles than it does for strategy.

FAQs

Marketing & Growth Recruitment, frequently asked

The full function: performance and paid media, growth, brand and category management, product marketing, content and social, SEO, CRM and lifecycle, martech and analytics, and marketing leadership up to CMO.

On the numbers they personally owned: monthly spend managed, ROAS, customer acquisition cost, contribution margin and retention cohorts. We probe the specifics rather than accepting a company-level growth figure at face value.

Yes. Marketing is a specialism, not a sector. The assessment is largely the same whether the employer is a bank, a beauty brand or a B2B software business, and we adjust for channel and buyer rather than for industry.

Regularly. Performance marketing, content, SEO, design and marketing operations are among the most established India based functions for US, Australian and Gulf employers.
